Porfolio for Series 5, 7, revo, netBook, and most Epoc ER5 machines

" Take your por(t)folio wherever you go... "
|
Some users of Porfolio monitor one single account with a few shares. Others manage
dozens of lines of investment in several accounts, all in different currencies. All of them have complete
control of their holdings, with easy access to details of past transactions and historical quotes or synthetic
views of their investment's performance. See what they say:
- " There is no PC based multicurrency portfolio accounting system that would match the elegance of your program."
- " Now I feel much stronger, when I meet my broker..."
- " My shares portfolio was the last thing I still managed on my PC. Now the PC is a simple backup facility for the Psion..."
- " Thanks to it I always know what my investments are doing. It is not very often, that I look at a shareware program and decide almost straight away to register it, but I did so with Porfolio."
- " Porfolio continues to be one of my most used shareware programs, and it proved especially useful when I did my taxes last week."
- " ...really is a great software - not only for the Psion S5, but also in comparison to other operating systems! It is very useful to have information about my shares with me wherever I go."
- " I have enjoyed it very much. The package has many advanced features, that I have not found in many PC applications."
- " Can I add that Porfolio is one of my most used program. I find it extremely functional and I have remained impressed by the regular updates and improvements you have made."
- " ... since using the product for the last 3-4 months, I have been impressed by both its robustness and functionality."
- " I could not believe my eyes when I read your e-mail.... With this modification Porfolio is perfect for the time being. Now I understand that it was rather easy for you to make that modification but I am very happy that there is a communication between the programmer and the user. Thank you very much for your kind communication."
- " I have tested your (Porfolio) thoroughly and I like it very much. I especially like the bar charts screen and the comfortable import of quotes (I had to import historical quotes)."
- " Incidentally, I do find the product easy to use with portability being a key feature. It also has significant depth, I am still exploring some areas. It does everything I need of it."
What you will do with Porfolio:
- Create a list of shares, indices and currencies.
- Open one or several accounts. Each account can have its own currency, different from the user's main currency.
- Record all possible transactions in these accounts: share purchases
and sales, cash or share transfers, dividends, share splits, share options, dividend reinvesment...
- Record the day to day value of indices, share quotes and exchange rates.
These values can be entered manually or downloaded from the web and imported into Porfolio.
On a machine with a connexion to the web (via a modem), Porfolio can update quotes by automatic import from Internet.
- Display the day to day status of your holdings in many different formats: by account, by share, by
category (create as many categories as you wish: Europe, US, Emerging, Bonds,...),
with average purchase costs, present values, potential capital
gains... Different screens are available, including graphic screens.
- Display views of transactions between two dates, detailed by transaction or summarized, with indication of
dividends and other incomes and expenses, capital gains and losses,...
- Calculate the Internal Rate of Return (IRR) on your investments, by share or by account.
- Open charts of historical quotes, compare two or more shares, or
one share and one to index, zoom in on a particular period,....
- Compare the performance of different shares over any period of time
(6 months, one year, first 6 months of last year,...).
- Print most of the screens and summary reports.
- ...
Other features of Porfolio:
- A "Cash" option can be switched On/Off for each account. All cash
transfers in the currency of the account are recorded.
- Whenever quotes are updated in Porfolio, corresponding records are automatically
created in quote history files (this option can be switched off). It is also possible to import complete history files at once.
- One can easily change the currency of reference of each account, all past transactions, average purchase costs,... being instantly converted to the new currency.
The user can store formulae for the automatic calculation of the net cost of transactions, as a function
of the number of shares purchased or sold and the purchase quote.
- Transactions files can be imported from PC applications, through files in the QIF format.
- Porfolio is one of the rare applications for Series 5
with a lefthanded option (i.e. with the toolbar on the left).
Beware: you try it, and you will find all other applications so unfriendly
:-)
- The pointer is supported in (nearly) all screens.

See the three different "Account display" screens, which show the status of
an account (instant toggle between the three screens. The default screen
at start up can be set as "preference"):
The screens look very much the same on the smaller screen or the revo
(only the clock has been sacrificed):
|
Display a summary of transactions between two dates, for the
whole account or for one particular share in the account:
|
Check each transaction before it is recorded. Here the saleof a share
(don't you like the capital gain :-)?). See that the transaction is recorded both in the actual currency
of transaction (GBP) and in the reference currency of the account (FRF):
|
The history of quotes of each share can be recorded and displayed graphically:
It is also possible to display several data series on one screen (up to 5),
and "normalise" them, i.e. show their comparative performance from one point in time,
where all would have been 100%. This example shows how two shares have performed since 29. Nov 1996:
|
The data from history files can be used to create tables showing the
percentage growth performance of a series of shares over any period
of time:
