How many times in a day do you open a calculator for a simple percentage calculation? Now you can do it the clever way on your smartphone: open one of the 12 screens of Finanz, enter 2 or 3 data, and let Finanz calculate the missing number, all this with the minimal number of actions on the keyboard and on the joystick.

The good news is that if you want to change one data and re-do the calculation, you will also do it with a minimal number of strokes. And you can "reverse" any calculation, like with the "solver" of a spreadsheet: "what should this parameter be, if I want the result to be this instead of that, all other things being equal...?" Each screen of Finanz operates like a little spreadsheet, with a big difference: each cell is alternatively a data entry cell and a calculated cell.

You can make simple arithmetic calculations (including percentage calculations) in the upper window of Finanz: push the joystick right, and a virtual keyboard with the 4 operators pops up. Select one of them with another move of the joystick...

The currency conversion module of Finanz has the following features:

• 10 currencies available (in 2 screens of 5 currencies, which can be modified by the user)
• instant conversion from any currency of the list to the 9 others
• automatic update of the exchange rates via internet connection (disclaimer), when such connection is available.

Your joypad operated smartphone needed a joypad operated smart calculator. Here you have it: unless you have a Bluetooth dongle plugged in your brains, you will not be able to make calculations on your Nokia 7650 with less thumb efforts than with JoyCalc. Thanks to its diamond shaped virtual keyboard, you can select and actuate each function key with 2 actions on the joystick only, in "full" display mode (left), or in one single move, in "basic" mode (right):

JoyCalc can also be operated with the device's keypad closed: when the application senses this situation, numbers are displayed on the virtual keyboard, and they can be selected in the same way as operators (2 moves for each digit):

You want to make a phone call to a person, who is number 50 down in your list? Open Contacts and you have a choice: either you push the joystick down 50 times, or you must open the keypad and type the first letters of her name. Not so if Soft Keypad is ready in the background: press the joystick twice quickly and a virtual keyboard pops up, where you can "type" the letters with a minimal number of joystick actions... Same thing in the Phone application, where you can dial a full number and make a call, without your thumb leaving the joystick at any time!!

Soft Keypad supports normal text input, predictive text input (T9) and numbers input: in most situations, it will detect the input mode of the application in the background and pop up the virtual keyboard suited to the situation. You can even switch the input mode of the device from normal text to predictive text and back with an Options command of Soft Keypad...

Phone numbers can be entered with "decimal" separators in Contacts, which makes them easier to read: with Soft Keypad you can enter +33,1,1234,5678 instead of +33112345678. At the time of dialling, the Phone application will filter out the separator (unfortunately, this is not true of the Messaging application, which required "plain" phone numbers, without separators :-().

Try Soft Keypad now and you will find out that the joystick is easier to use than the normal keypad, even to take notes or send emails. The only thing, which you may find hard to do without opening the keypad of your Nokia 7650 is... take pictures .
